"Mamarama" truly began with the birth of my two daughters over 10 years ago.  Having two hugely transformative birth experiences put me on a mission to help other women who were pregnant and seeking options regarding childbirth.  There are so many questions, concerns, hopes, fears and outright anxieties about the birth process and becoming a parent - they can sometimes overwhelm a couple and lead to more stress.  As I gravitated to helping newly pregnant couples I created my own public access show on the topic and found an ideal forum for communicating to expecting parents. Using my TV show as a starting point I delved into a rigorous program to become a certified childbirth educator.

My early shows were about subjects such as natural childbirth, lead poisoning concerns, and feeding your toddler - whatever I was experiencing I talked about. I offered books and magazines that were quality parenting resources.  Eventually, I broadened my world to encompass more complex problems I was coping with, such as discipline, the rigors of childcare, and all the many failures parents have to accept as part of the deal.  In an effort to convince myself, I encouraged viewers not to heap criticism on themselves or on their friends' parenting techniques.  As my children grew and became more challenging, contracted lice, or started to question The Universe and Santa's role in it all, my show similarly accommodated such topics. Today my show often reflects the many issues surrounding pregnancy, labor and birth in a very medicalized culture.

Now, I'm an empowered and happily divorced mom facing even larger, yet universally recognized, subjects and problems.  Mamarama has continued to evolve over time; it adapts and morphs and redefines itself just like I do - and just like any parent has to do as time marches on and our children both challenge and amaze us every single step of the way.
